George Nikas, Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Nikas is the founder of Sofos Asset Management LCC. Prior to Sofos Asset Management, Mr. Nikas was a founding Partner/Managing Director of a $300 million fund of funds company, Endevon Capital LLC. There he co-managed four fund of fund portfolios: (Diversified Opportunistic, Leveraged, New Manager, and Guaranteed Principal). He also oversaw and directed all aspects of hedge fund manager due diligence and risk management with a team of hedge fund analysts.
Prior to Endevon Capital LLC, Mr. Nikas was employed at Bank Julius Baer & Co. Ltd. (“New York Branch”) in various capacities. His last role there was a Hedge Fund Specialist/Vice President where he led the global launch of the Hedge Fund Advisory product (a customized fund of fund solution for UHNW clients) which grew to $1billion in AUM. Prior to that role he was a hedge fund analyst responsible for due diligence, risk management, ongoing supervision and sourcing. Mr. Nikas developed all the proprietary qualitative and quantitative research methodology on hedge funds as well as the client risk assessment methodology to assist internally Private Banking teams with client objectives and suitability. Mr. Nikas also drafted information memoranda and carried out the due diligence for the creation of offshore funds as well as established credit procedures for lending against hedge funds.
Mr. Nikas has also created multi-tranche risk and principal guaranteed, market linked products. Prior to that he worked in the trading/treasury division of the bank assisting the treasurer in all aspects trading, risk assessment, risk management supervision, as well as proprietary allocation of risk capital to internal and external managers. Mr. Nikas expanded the Bank's trading into emerging markets and created systems and procedures to price Brady bonds. Mr. Nikas was also responsible for the treasury’s compliance with Federal Reserve/OCC regulation as well as head office directives.
Mr. Nikas holds a Master of International Affairs degree from Columbia University, as well as a Bachelor of Science from Columbia University. Additionally, Mr. Nikas is a Certified Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA).
Justin Lowe, Director and Management Committee Member
Mr Lowe serves as a Director of Sofos Asset Management (Europe) and is a member of the Sofos Asset Management LLC Management Committee. He is primarily responsible for overseeing the firm’s European activities. He brings many years of experience in allocating to hedge funds as well as building a successful investment management firm. Mr Lowe has been an early supporter and one of the architects of the Sofos platform.
Mr Lowe is a co-Founder and Director of Pan Reliance Capital Advisors, an established New York fund of hedge funds manager with a multi-strategy focus. Mr. Lowe also serves on the Investment Committee of Marcuard Heritage AG, one of Switzerland’s leading independent wealth managers.
Mr. Lowe previously served as Managing Partner of Reliance LLC, a New York-based company he founded which provided advisory services in the alternative investment space. While at Reliance, he was responsible for advising on over $1 billion of assets invested in hedge funds across a wide range of strategies.
Prior to the launch of Reliance, Mr. Lowe was CEO of TradingLinx in New York, a financial technology company he founded after working at Broadview Associates in New York, a technology investment bank and venture firm. Mr. Lowe started his career as a consultant for Bain & Company where he served in the Geneva, Paris, London and Munich offices.
Mr. Lowe received an MBA from Columbia University School of Business and a BSC in Economics from the London School of Economics.
Tibor Nemes, Managing Director, Market Risk Desk
Mr. Nemes is responsible for the oversight of all hedge fund portfolios to ensure adherence to internal limits and risk parameters. Additionally, he is responsible for constructing and executing hedging strategies on behalf of investors. He is also responsible for setting up proper, scalable risk management systems for real time risk assessment and analyses.
Mr. Nemes joins Sofos from Quad Capital Management, a New York based hedge fund where he was responsible for managing a long-short equity and equity options sub strategy. He utilized a top-down approach to identify single stock or sector specific opportunities that best fit the investment themes of select macro trends. Longer term investment themes often employed short term hedging strategies to smooth out returns and reduce event related risk exposure.
Prior to Quad Capital, Mr. Nemes was an integral part of the MF Global Inc. cash trading desk. He helped build the technological infrastructure and equities sales desk. His duties included system integration with the firm’s fixed income and commodities futures desks for seamless cash execution. He also helped develop a Direct Access, global equities execution platform that allowed electronic trading in Asia, Europe, South America and the US. Mr. Nemes was responsible for mitigating capital commitment risks related to facilitating the execution of block trades and large derivatives trades. In addition, he also filled a role of an institutional sales trader covering multiple hedge fund and broker dealer accounts. Mr. Nemes worked at Goldman, Sachs & Co. before he was recruited to join MF Global Inc. At Goldman, Sachs & Co. he was a market maker of NASDAQ stocks. This role required him to constantly interact with various types of clients and facilitate their execution needs in 200+ securities. Daily risk assessment and the employment of various hedging strategies were part of his job. Other duties included the facilitation of program and basket trades, block trades, and periodic rebalancing trades of various indexes. Prior to Goldman, Mr. Nemes worked at Spear, Leeds and Kellogg fulfilling a similar role.
Mr. Nemes holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Baruch College and Master of Arts in Economics from New York University.
Janet Yuen, Risk Management
Ms. Yuen is a member of the Risk Management Unit where she is responsible for the oversight of risk management for hedge fund portfolios and hedge fund due diligence.
Before joining Sofos Asset Management, Ms. Yuen was a senior research analyst at Capital Preservation Partners (CPP), a $400 million fund of funds affiliated with Paloma Partners, LLC.
Prior to Capital Preservation Partners, she was responsible for hedge fund manager due diligence, selection, and portfolio construction at Fix Asset Management, a family office/ fund of funds with offices around the world.
Ms. Yuen built her traditional and alternative asset manager research expertise at Citigroup Private Bank and Prudential Insurance Co. She built her experience in working with wealth management investment counselors in manager selection and portfolio construction. At Prudential, she managed investment management research and due diligence on proprietary variable annuity portfolios valued at over $20 billion; she was instrumental in the launch of a proprietary mutual fund selection toolkit for the firm’s 1,000-plus mutual fund wrap program.
Ms. Yuen holds a B.Sc. in Accounting from The University of California, Berkeley and an M.B.A. in Finance from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. She is also a Chartered Financial Analyst, and a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst. She also serves as an adjunct lecturer at New York University’s School of Continuing Professional Studies.
Taylor M. Carroll, Hedge Fund Risk Analyst
Mr. Carroll is responsible for the daily oversight of hedge fund portfolios to ensure adherence to internal limits on a real time basis and for intraday risk analysis. Additional duties include risk reporting, fund profiling, and data quality control.
Mr. Carroll joined Sofos Asset Management after serving as a Research Analyst for Fifth Avenue Financial Group—a licensed securities investment advisor and a financial planning company that specializes in Insurance products provided by Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company.
Prior to Fifth Avenue Financial Group, Mr. Carroll was a marketing analyst for MMT Solutions—a training and marketing firm. During his time at MMT Solutions, Mr. Carroll assisted in the development of competitive edge directives to enhance clientele revenue growth.
Mr. Carroll holds a Bachelor of Arts from Loyola University of Maryland, with a major in History and a minor in Business Administration.
